The U.S. Small Business Administration sadly announces the death of Nevada District Director Robert

LAS VEGAS = The U.S. Small Business Administration sadly announces the death of Nevada District Director Robert Holguin on Sunday, January 15th, 2017.
Robert Holguin joined SBA in 2012 after a long and distinguished private sector career, and was appointed District Director of the Small Business Administration’s Nevada District in 2014. He also served in the Navy during Vietnam.
“Bob Holguin was an outstanding advocate for Nevada’s small business community,” said SBA Region IX Administrator Donna Davis. “His leadership and experience will be deeply missed, but his legacy of support for the state’s entrepreneurs will live on,” said Davis.
Prior to working for SBA, Robert Holguin had over 11 years’ experience in the banking industry. He was previously Director of the Business Services Division for Valley Economic Development Corporation (VEDC), developing and delivering programs to assist in the greater Los Angeles region. He worked for East West Bank’s small business lending division, increasing SBA lending from $18 million to over $75 million in 12 months, and growing East West Bank to one of the top 100 ranked SBA lenders in the United States. Robert managed one of the country’s largest Small Business Development Centers which included a top producing SBA loan packaging intermediary, and had over 20 years experience in technology, manufacturing, retail, and publishing industries.
Memorial services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 8755 Iron Mountain Road in Las Vegas, NV 89143 on Saturday January 28th at 4:00 pm.
Following Robert Holguin’s passing, the U.S. Small Business Administration has selected an Acting Director until the position can be filled permanently. “I am grateful to announce that Mr. Ben Raju has agreed to serve the state of Nevada as the Acting District Director for the SBA’s offices in Las Vegas and Reno,” said SBA’s Regional Administrator Donna Davis. “Mr. Raju comes to Nevada as the Deputy District Director for the SBA’s Los Angeles District Office, serving Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties. During his career, Mr. Raju has represented the SBA in various capacities throughout the United States. He will continue Bob Holguin’s work supporting small businesses in Nevada while SBA seeks a permanent District Director for the state.”
